You won't find a bigger Reitsma booster than this particular department of Brave-O-Matic. That said, he's become a genuine problem, made more glaring by the fact that the team is playing so well in virtually every other facet of the game. It's not just that he blows the occasional (lately more than occasional) save, but the manner in which he does it. Tonight was yet another pathetic display of ineptitude. He just plain falls apart if he doesn't get the first out. With Farnsworth (and yes, Kolb) waiting in the wings, Reitsma is one more blowup from being replaced as closer.
Problem is, neither of these other options necessarily puts the issue to bed. We've got three head cases on our hands -- they just happen to be the three best arms in the pen. Another division title looks like a safe bet, but postseason disappointment looms once again.

Maybe someone will catch lightning in a bottle come October. At this point, it is the only hope. The bullpen is and has been miserable for the better part of 4 months. Where o where are Hrabosky /Pena /Berenguer /Stanton / Wohlers/ Rocker/ Remlinger/ McMicheal/Hammond/ Bong when you need em? I probably missed a few and certainly the majority of these guys look much better in the rear view mirror but man....at this point....this bullpen is earning an anybody but this bullpen attitude.
On a side note, dragged myself to watch Randy Johnson pitch last night against the D-Rays. He isn't what he used to be but short of one pitch (2R - HR Perez) he was effective. Mariano came in for the save. He isn't what he used to be but for one bad pitch (1R-HR Perez) he was effective. After he blew the save, their bullpen made short work of the game by walking the bases full and then walking in the losing run. Misery loves company.
Put my house on the market today. Gonna move to Tifton where rumor has it Turner South is part of the basic cable package. Wife is furious. Keeps asking just what the hell do I mean by 30 minute baseball games? I am gonna buy a funnel so I can still enjoy my 12 pack. Divorce probably coming soon. Anyone know any good sports bars in Gastonia?
I have some family (aunt, uncle, two cousins -- one boy, one girl) that moved to Tifton about 7 or 8 years ago. By the time three years had passed, uncle was having cybersex with a Venezuelan woman, the girl (age 13) was wearing shorts that read "slut" across the ass, and the aunt and boy cousin had begun painting found turtle shells and selling them on ebay. Good luck with the move!
I like turtles and my wife might wear the shorts. Things are looking up.
