Trade Deadline Rumors Abound

It's being said and sung on local sports talk radio that the Yankees are trying to pry Wilson Betemit ( Who some call- the best player in baseball without a starting job) from the Braves. The offer appears to have reliever Scott Proctor coming from the Big Apple to our bullpen.

I don't think we'll let Betemit go for anything less than a huge talent. But Death Ray's set-up effort has been less than spectacular of late. We'll see soon enough, as the trade deadline approaches quickly.

They wish -- Proctor isn't any better than what we've got.

I also heard a twist to this rumor.

Proctor is traded for Betemit

then

Yankees send Betemit to Padres for Linebrink

I never did see a clear reason as of why Atlanta and San Deigo couldn't work out something during the Betemit/Linebrink talks. Is it because their both fighting to the wild card?

That says it all right there -- if the Yankees think they better their team by getting rid of Proctor and getting Linebrink, and the Padres are willing to trade Linebrink for Betemit, why in the world would we involve the Yankees at all?

I can't see us letting an inexpensive and talented youngster like Betemit go right now.
